This informs our taste. You couldn't care less because we are talking of colours. Hope I change that narrative when I'm done. Let's start. It is the recipe that acts as a catalyst to your preference. The day I took pains to search for names of other colours, I was stunned.
As kid growing up, the excitement written all over my face whenever the rainbow hangs in the sky was amazing.
Playing in large compound and fields brought everything to a halt to admire this beauty. Biblically, it was God's promise to mankind that he will not destroy the earth with water again as in the days of Noah. Beholding this great scene and starring in the sky with the eyes half closed to the sun and begging it to dim it shine for one minute was breathtaking. Gradually, like a nice movie wishing it doesn't end soon, it fades away.
Colours becomes major determinant when shopping. If you doubt, have you wondered why the same dress but one prefers blue to green, the other pink to blue and so forth.
Nature offers free subscription of wide array of colours. Plants, animals, water bodies, the sky and the list goes on.
Culture is dynamic and it varies from society to society.
In my country, Ghana, the colour white symbolizes victory and insurmountable joy. The colour red and black culturally are for mourning. Red and black are quite visible during funerals. In light of this, it clearly shows that colours have meanings to which we attach much interest to.
"Kente", does this term rings a bell? If it doesn't, it is a handwoven cloth with different patterns. As flamboyant as it is, it is worn on great occasions. The symbolic colours give it a great taste.
Where are the scientists? After all, I still remember what i was taught in Primary school about light in relation to colours. Well, the colour white reflects light while black absorbs the light. Lemme ask you a question. What is the best colour to wear on a sunny day? Let's see if you took your science classes seriously.
In sports, my favourite football club Manchester United is called "Red devils" for a reason. Our rivals Liverpool known as "The Reds" and not forgetting the "The blues" as the nickname of Chelsea and the jerseys to match this colours. This shows colours have a place in football and ignites that passion.
